Spiritbox Tsunami Sea Tour Sold Out Two Nights at The Hollywood Palladium

To say this band is riding a huge wave of success is an understatement. Spiritbox successfully sold out not only one but two shows back to back at the Hollywood Palladium with support from Dying Wish and Loathe. Coming off the release of their sophomore album Tsunami Sea, Spiritbox is a band that shows that hard work and determination pays off.

To witness the success this band has received is truly amazing. From being a two time Grammy nominated band to selling out an entire tour across the U.S. Spiritbox is a force to reckon with.

Spiritbox brought out Portland band Dying Wish and from across the pond Loathe on this tour and this was a perfect match in heaven kind of lineup. Dying Wish kicked off both nights with their melodic hardcore sound and I became an immediate fan. I’ve wanted to see Dying Wish live for so long so getting to see them both nights was just awesome. Lead vocalist Emma Boster is such a powerhouse singer and puts all the male vocalists to shame with the amount of control yet rawness to her voice. The crowd would go wild during their set with having one pit and a bunch of crowd surfers during night one then having two pits and even more crowd surfers during night two. The energy never slowed down for them. They played songs like “Symptoms of Survival”, “Crowds Feed, Crowds Bleed”, “Prey For Me”, and the latest single “I Brought You My Soul (Your World Brought Me Despair)”. I wish their set was a bit longer, but getting to see the intense energy this band brings to the crowd both nights was great.

Hailing from Liverpool, England, Loathe has been making a name for themselves recently with their new song “Gifted Every Strength” which debuted on this tour and it’s first piece of new music from the band since the release of their 2021 album The Things They Believe. With their progressive metal sound, the vibe shifted during the show going from hardcore energy to a more Deftone-like vibe that made you want to sway and dance the entire time they performed. This was the first time I ever heard any of the band’s music before so the shift in energy caught me off guard but in a good way. I felt like being on the barricade night one didn’t give me the opportunity to really enjoy their performance until night two. Just watching everyone dance and vibe to the band’s music from the back definitely gave me a better chance to soak in Loathe and enjoy their set. The band mostly played songs from their album I Let It In and It Took Everything like songs “Screaming”, “Two-Way Mirror”, “Gored” and song “Dance On My Skin” from their 2017 album The Cold Sun. Overall, their performance was great to see and look forward to their new music that is anticipated to be released later this year.

Having to wait for almost forty minutes between Loathe and Spiritbox’s set was killing me, but was so worth it. From the amazing visuals to the performance to the energy of the crowd brought me to literal tears. The band started off their set with the opening track off Tsunami Sea “Fata Morgana” and immediately the crowd was all for it. Prior to the release of the album and the U.S. tour, Spiritbox had embarked on their UK and European tour debuting that song and I was just super impressed with how well that song opened the set and was hoping they opened their shows here with that song. Courtney is such a true creative genius when it comes down to the visuals of the tour, making it a full artistic moment when each song was played. Playing songs from not only Tsunami Sea but also The Fear of Fear like “The Void” and “Jaded” that had earned them their first Grammy nomination. They also played all three songs off their EP Rotoscope and also played a few classics from Eternal Blue like “Secret Garden", “Circle With Me” and “Holy Roller”. Night one didn’t have any featured performances, but on night two, Courtney invited Emma Boster of Dying Wish to join her during “Soft Spine” and Kadeem France of Loathe during “Holy Roller” to close out the last night of the tour.

Playing banger after banger, Spiritbox continued the night playing “No Loss, No Love”, “Crystal Roses” and “Ride The Wave”. Before playing “Ride The Wave”, Courtney poured her gratitude out to the fans, thanking everyone who believed in them and making their success a reality. To be able to perform at a venue that they only dreamt of playing at when they moved to Los Angeles, Courtney said she would see all the shows happening at the venue from her balcony that was right behind the venue and for them to sell out both nights was amazing.

I’ve been a fan of Spiritbox since I found out about them during COVID and seeing the amount of success they are receiving is truly amazing. Spiritbox continues to bring people together with their music and it will only get bigger from here. A tsunami is coming and its name is Spiritbox.
