Memphis May Fire Shapeshifter Tour Brought A Chaotic Night Out At The Belasco

Chaotic and electric is the best way to describe this night! Memphis May Fire are out on tour supporting the recent release of their new album Shapeshifter. I will be honest I did fall off the band for a bit but the new album brought me back and made me excited to hear some of the new songs live.

This lineup consisted of Memphis May Fire, Caskets, Wind Walkers and Elijah. Elijah was the first act up for the night and I was super impressed by his set. This was my first time ever hearing any of his songs and to say I was impressed is an understatement. Normally when I see a solo act at a rock show I expect something like a mix of rap with rock elements, but did I expect an artist to also do screams? Nope, not at all and that’s exactly what I got from Elijah. His energy during his set was incredible and it was definitely a vibe I enjoyed!

Now one of the bands, besides MMF, that I was looking forward to seeing live was Wind Walkers. I first heard their song “Bodybag” which immediately got me hooked on the band so I was super excited finally getting to see them live. They are a band with lots of high energy and for a late show on a Tuesday night the energy was much needed! Their music is so catchy and just makes you want to dance the night away.

Caskets was up next in this lineup. This was actually the band’s first night actually playing on the tour since they had to miss the first few dates due to visa issues. Unfortunately they actually had to cancel their set for this show due to technical issues. Lead singer Matthew Flood did come out 20 minutes after their initial scheduled play time to explain to the crowd that they did soundcheck and everything worked perfectly but they didn’t know what was going on that it couldn’t be resolved and it cut too much into the playing time. They came to a unanimous decision to pull their set. Personally for me and maybe for everyone else, I would have loved it if they took the little time they had left to do a quick acoustic set to get some playing time, but that sadly did not happen. Hopefully they come back soon and I can see them perform again.

So since Caskets set got cut, Memphis May Fire ended up playing 10 minutes earlier. Memphis never disappoints with their high energy emanating into the crowd. They played the majority of the songs from Shapeshifter like the title track itself, “Paralyzed”, “Overdose”, “Necessary Evil”, and “Chaotic”, but also a few tracks from Remade In Misery, Challenger, and The Hollow. I always love when they play “Vices” and “The Sinner” live since those are the songs that got me into the band in the first place so it is always a great experience getting to hear everyone in the crowd singing along to those songs. If you have the opportunity to go see Memphis May FIre on their tour, grab those tickets and show your support on their remaining tour & festival dates!
