While She Sleeps

Los Angeles Sleep Society Showed Up For While She Sleeps at The Regent

Sometimes silence does speak volumes but in this case there was nothing silent about the crowd that showed up at the Regent to see While She Sleeps perform. That feeling you get from seeing a bucket list band is indescribable but it is such a euphoric feeling that makes spending the money to see them so worth it. Not only just seeing that one band but also getting to experience the supporting bands as well give it their all to make a great show happen is always worth it to me.

High energy was all around from the very beginning. Vended started off the night with their brutal modern take of nu metal. If you haven’t heard of Vended before you are for sure sleeping on the band! They have such a high energy and unique sound that reminds me of old school Slipknot. If hearing those vocals make you think you are hearing a younger version of Corey Taylor that’s probably because his son Griffin is the lead singer! You would think it's the legend himself but you can clearly hear a slight difference in the tonal range that will forever keep you guessing and listening to the band. Every time I see Vended perform I am never disappointed. From the clean vocals that lead to those brutal nu metal growls/screams, the heavy riffs from both the guitars, the booming bass notes and those high energy drums from the son of Slipknot member Clown, Vended is a band to watch.

As the night continues, UK natives Bury Tomorrow take the stage and no joke my jaw dropped when they started playing. I’ve heard of Bury Tomorrow but I never had the chance to hear any of their songs or see them live so I was going into this set completely open minded. Let’s just say I am forever a fan. I love when bands have more than one singer because it adds a depth to the live show and that is what Bury Tomorrow did. Their melodic sound blends perfectly with those metalcore roots so well that you won’t be disappointed by their set. Also note that they do hang out after their set at their merch booth and are the nicest guys ever! Do not miss their set if you are coming to this tour, you will be so disappointed if you do!

I’ve been a fan of While She Sleeps since high school and finally getting to experience a live show was truly amazing. If you don’t know lead singer Lawrence Taylor had vocal surgery a few years ago and anyone in the industry knows that coming back from any kind of surgery can be scary, but that didn’t stop the band and Taylor from releasing probably one of my favorite albums, Brainwashed.

There were a few technical issues that delayed the show a bit but that didn’t stop anyone in the band or the crowd from having the time of their lives. The band played mostly songs from their most recent album Self Hell like the title track “SELF HELL”, “RAINBOWS”, and “TO THE FLOWERS”. They also played their hits from their previous discography “Four Walls”, “SLEEPS SOCIETY”, “GUILTY PARTY”, “ANTI-SOCIAL” and fan favorite “SIlence Speaks”. The crowd itself was immaculate so high from the energy that you never once saw them stop moving. That pit was moving all night and there were plenty of crowd surfers that kept the one security guard busy for the night.

Overall, it was a great way to spend Easter and 4/20 at a show. There were no bunnies harmed during the show or illegal activity done… sort of. If you have the opportunity to catch While She Sleeps during the remainder of their tour this is your sign to buy those tickets before they sell out!
