Goldfinger West Coast ‘25

Ska heavyweights Goldfinger tore through a completely sold-out House of Blues Anaheim last week with an unforgettable performance packed with nonstop dancing and relentless energy. The band was joined by the equally contagious rhythms of New Vaticans, Slick Shoes, Mad Caddies, and The Ataris, who had the crowd singing along to favorites like “Boys of Summer” and “Boxcar”—their own spin on classics by Don Henley and Jawbreaker.

The Ataris

The Ataris had another surprise in store, bringing out Mike Herrera of Goldfinger/MxPx for a wild rendition of “San Dimas High School Football Rules” that had everyone (myself included) absolutely losing it. New Vaticans, Slick Shoes, and Mad Caddies kept the energy high, getting the crowd skanking in true ska fashion with plenty of horn-heavy breakdowns.

he night closed off with Goldfinger performing at a magnetic level, keeping the crowd locked in for their entire set. And the surprises didn’t stop with The Ataris—Goldfinger kicked things off with a killer cover of “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure before bringing out Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills for a high-energy take on “Open Your Eyes” and a cover of NOFX’s “Linoleum.” They kept the crowd on their toes with unexpected covers of “Enter Sandman” and even “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” both of which had everyone jumping and singing along.

Of course, the night couldn’t end without one last epic singalong—Goldfinger’s incredible cover of “99 Red Balloons” sent the crowd home buzzing, closing out a night of pure ska-punk mayhem.
