Emery w/ Lacey Sturm at The Regent - January 12, 2025

January 12, 2025, was one of those nights that would leave a mark in your memory for quite some time. Considering how things have been in SoCal lately, this show was about letting go of all the miseries and having something special. Emery, celebrating 25 years of being the Masters of Rock, along with none other than Lacey Sturm, was just what the crowd needed.

Bad Luck

The night kicked off with Bad Luck, a pop-punk band from New York. Their raw, genuine rock sound set the perfect tone for the evening. Brothers Dominick and Joseph Fox and their friends Michael Sichel and Charlie Caruso brought high energy to the stage that immediately clicked with the crowd.

People bobbed their heads, and you could tell the audience was getting into it right away. It was a strong opener that set the stage for what was to come.

Next up was Lacey Sturm, and from the moment she stepped on stage, the energy skyrocketed. She kicked off her set with “My Heartbeat” from her latest album Kenotic Metanoia but it was the next track “I’m So Sick” that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Fans sang along to every word, and the chemistry between Lacey and the crowd was electric. She played crowd favorites "Rot," "Fully Alive," and "All Around Me," each song bringing the crowd together into one singular moment of nostalgia and sanctuary.

She commanded the stage with her presence, and it was plain to see that she was feeding off the energy from the crowd no less than they were off her.

Emery

Finally, Emery took center stage, and the room went bananas. The band launched into "The Ponytail Parades," and the crowd was beyond eager. They were celebrating their 25th anniversary with a playthrough of the entire album, The Weak's End.

The band consisting of Toby Morrell, Devin Shelton, Josh Head, Matt Carter, Dave Powell, and Chris Keene picked up exactly where it had left off, proof the chemistry is still as strong as ever. They had unmatched energy on stage and the crowd feeding off that intensity.

It was the perfect setlist of nostalgia, yet full of raw emotion. "I Don't Know You at All," "The Party Song," and "Edge of the World" got the fans going, and everybody moved. The crowd was literally singing every word and it was just this huge, collective experience.

Songs like "As Your Voice Fades" and "The Secret" hit home hard, and once they closed it out with "Walls," the room was filled with joy, nostalgia, and gratitude.

Everyone in that place had been carried back to the early 2000s and in some small way, like a reunion to some degree.

Emery's performance wasn't just about the past; it was also about the present. They did manage some time to connect with the crowd, acknowledging what everyone's going through in these tough times. It was one of those reminders that music has this amazing power of bringing people together and healing and comforting in hard moments.

All in all, the night had been a perfect mix of old-school and new energy. It wasn’t just a concert it was a collective moment of release of emotional weight being lifted. The crowd, many of whom grew up with The Weak’s End, found comfort in the music and in each other. It was a night of remembering where we’ve come from and finding relief in the present, a much needed escape for anyone in need of a little healing.
