Death From Above 1979
It has been some time since I last saw the Toronto duo of Jesse Keeler and Sebastien Grainger but they have only gotten better like fine wine, or an aged cheese for some poutine. Death From Above 1979 makes a raucous neo-punk sound meet a chill sexy groove go down oh so right. To tell someone that all this music is coming from just two individuals and that it sounds just as perfect live will warp that person’s sense of understanding what music can be and give them brain freeze.

This was a celebration of DFA1979’s seminal album You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine which came out in 2004. The crowd was rowdy. The vibe was sexy.

At one point, Grainger made a reference to the album closer “Sexy Results” being like their “Song 2” (please go listen to Blur) and as someone from the crowd yelled “but yours is better!”, Sebastien admonished the brave soul by telling them it is in no way better and a good laugh was had by all.
