Shoegaze band Cloakroom came out swinging at The Regent, unloading a wall of heavy, sludgy sound that felt like you were floating in space with nowhere to go. Right from the start they pulled everyone into their world, a mix of crushing riffs and dreamy vibes that just hit different.
Guitarist and vocalist Doyle Martin’s voice was a whole mood: sometimes cryptic, sometimes dreamy, and other times just blending into the crunchy guitar riffs. It was the kind of sound that messes with your head in the best way.
Drummer Tim Remis kept things steady with a slow, deliberate groove, locking everything down while the crowd swayed along. Bobby Markos’ bass was pure doom, distorted and heavy enough to make the floor feel like it might cave in. Together, they created this thick, viscous sound that you could practically feel in your chest.
The Indiana-based band played a short but killer set, mixing fan favorites with some deeper cuts. “The Pilot” kicked things off with rawness, and “Lost Meaning” was hypnotic. “Story of the Egg” came with a surprise intro from “Unbelonging” that added a little extra something, and the closer, “Dissembler,” left the crowd floating. It was heavy, it was trippy, and it was over way too soon.
