Bleeding Through 25th Anniversary Show – 12/14/2024 - House of Blues Anaheim
Orange County’s own metalcore legends, Bleeding Through, just unleashed hell to celebrate 25 years of sonic destruction! Their signature blend of death metal and symphonic black metal has carved them a throne in the metal scene, and this night at the House of Blues Anaheim proved why they’re still at the top. The lineup was stacked. Five bands brought the fire before Bleeding Through hit the stage, each one ripping the venue apart in their own way.
Last of Our Kind
Kicking things off, Last of Our Kind stormed in like a battering ram with “Hidden Hell.” Vocalist Tripp Taylor’s growls hit like a hammer to the chest, and their crushing riffs and blast beats tore through the crowd.
The pit ignited instantly, no warm-ups, no mercy. “Slice Me” had bodies flying in a circle pit of insanity, while “Submerge in the Pain” pounded eardrums with its double-bass assault. These guys didn’t just open the show; they set the bar for chaos.
I Declare War
Then came I Declare War, and things got darker, heavier, and nastier. Jamie Hanks’ vocals sounded like a demon clawing its way out of hell, while Garon Howe’s drumming was pure violence.
The guitar duo of Greg Kirkpatrick and John Winters served up a barrage of crushing riffs and eerie dissonance left the crowd no room to breathe. “Human Waste” and “Grieve for No One” turned the pit into a warzone with elbows, fists, and bodies flying everywhere. Their set was carnage from start to finish.
God Forbid
The lights dimmed, and God Forbid made their entrance with "Duel of the Fates" blaring like an apocalyptic anthem. Then “Force-Fed” hit, and the crowd erupted.
Byron Davis’s guttural screams were raw, primal, and downright feral. Guitarists Doc Coyle and Nick Hipa shredded like their lives depended on it, their riffs melting faces and solos ripping through the chaos.
Tracks like “Gone Forever” and “Antihero” combined heaviness with just enough melody to give you chills while still beating you down.
Nekrogoblikon
And then… a goblin. Yes, Nekrogoblikon hit the stage, bringing a twisted, ridiculous party to the chaos. With John Goblikon hip-thrusting his way into our hearts and their blend of melodic death metal and absurd humor, they were impossible not to love.
“Powercore” (a personal favorite) kicked things off with shredding riffs and soaring keyboards, and the energy only got wilder with tracks like “No One Survives” and “This Is It.” They proved you can be heavy as hell and still have a damn good time doing it.
Carnifex
The fun didn’t last long, though, because Carnifex dragged the crowd straight back into the abyss. Opening with the annihilating “World War X,” they plunged the venue into darkness, with only backlighting illuminating their silhouettes.
Scott Lewis’s guttural roars sounded like the end of the world, while Shawn Cameron’s drumming kept the pace so punishing you’d swear your heart was about to give out.
Cory Arford and Neil Tiemann’s riffs were razor-sharp, and Fred Calderon’s bass thundered so hard it shook the walls. “Die Without Hope” and “Hell Chose Me” crushed any remaining resistance in the crowd.
Bleeding Through
Finally, the legends themselves took the stage. Bleeding Through emerged from the shadows, faces painted in black like wraiths. The opening notes of “Revenge I Seek” hit, and the place exploded with mosh pits, crowd surfers, and absolute mayhem everywhere.
Brendan Schieppati’s vocals were a mix of fury and despair, while John Arnold and Brandon Richter’s guitars delivered riffs so sharp they could flay skin.
Derek Youngsma’s drumming was like a machine gun, hammering through every track with precision and power.
And then there was Marta Demmel. Her haunting keyboard melodies wrapped the chaos in a dark, gothic beauty, especially on tracks like “Orange County Blonde and Blue” and “Love Lost in a Hail of Gunfire.” The surprise of the night? M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold joining for “Savior, Saint, Salvation,” sending the crowd into an all-out frenzy.
By the time the final notes of “Kill to Believe” rang out, the crowd was battered, bruised, and exhilarated. Bleeding Through didn’t just celebrate 25 years, they conquered the night. Proving they’re still one of the most ferocious and innovative forces in metal. This was a war cry, a celebration of everything brutal, and a reminder that metal is alive, thriving, and as angry as ever.
