Headwreck’s Jamo Benadie Joins Ahren Stringer’s New Band: Self Checkout
Earlier this spring, Ahren Stringer announced that he’d be working on a new project following his departure from The Amity Affliction. The project has officially taken shape as a completely new band which has been named: Self Checkout. The band features Ahren himself, Yung Yogi (aka Gus Farias, formerly of Volumes), and NOW the newly announced guitarist Jamo Benadie, best known for his work with the Australian band Headwreck. The group is working on something special for fans who’ve followed the circle of artists into this new chapter and adding Jamo to the project has just raised the bar..
For those unfamiliar with Jamo Benadie, he’s an intense creative from Brisbane’s alt-metal scene. In Headwreck, he’s not only the guitarist, but also contributes vocals, songwriting, and full-scale production. Jamo handles mixing, recording, and mastering in-house, giving Headwreck its sharp, glitchy, industrial sound. Said in a Spencer Whiteout’s podcast, Jamo personally drew influence from The Amity Affliction (no surprise there) and in fact, that is how Ahren and Jamo had first come in contact– an Amity show.
One could describe Jamo as Headwreck's “creative engine” with all that he puts forth into the band’s productions, but Jamo’s role in Self Checkout is currently confirmed, for now, as the guitarist… but given his track record, there's a good chance he could be inputting more than just riffs. Whether he’ll be adding a deeper creative influence or just sticking to showcasing his guitar skills remains to be seen, but his involvement already has fans and followers buzzing. So much that not a SINGLE doubt of Jamo's reveal can be seen on the internet. Fans are absolutely hyped. (P.S, don't worry Jamo will still very much be the same essential piece of Headwreck!)
To catch some of you up, back in May 2025, Ahren was spotted in Mexico City collaborating with Yung Yogi, producer Ana Döring, and Marco Aurelio Conde, whose studio appears to be the creative hub for this new venture. The announcement of Jamo’s addition came with a teaser audio clip on social media via Self Checkout’s Instagram… just enough to cause some speculating curiosity.
Since Ahren’s departure from The Amity Affliction, the internet’s been split: speculation, opinions, and emotional reactions came fast. But for the fans who decided to still ride with him, this new project feels like a fresh start, and an exciting one, one that is highly anticipated.
We’re watching, waiting, and ready to see what Self Checkout is really about. Something groundbreaking is coming, and it won’t be long before the full picture finally comes into focus.
